The swiss Ruedi Rüesch, Karin Lenz-Meier and Roland Lenz came to visit Chile in 1995. Their were so fascinated by the country that they decided to found their own vineyard in 1998 under the name Viña Tierra y Fuego. In 2007 the vineyard was renamed Viña Chillán.
They chose the Itata Valley simply because they understood that there was no better place in the world which provides better conditions for vineyard and wine production.
Thanks to high quality grapes, clean production processes, Viña Chillán has achieved to produce great wines, 80% aged in French and American barrels. We produce 12 varieties of very particular and outstanding wines, which are mainly exported to Europe.
Here at our Viña Chillan, we handle 9 different varietals: Malbec (with more than 100 years of tradition in the area), Carmenère, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc. Our production reached 60.000 bottles in 2011.
Viña Chillán is characterized by producing exclusive and organic wines, including some very special white wines made from red grapes such as Malbec, Merlot and Carmenère.
Producing and selling high quality wines to export to Europe and to other parts of the world
Chillán means in local Mapuche language "the place where the sun is".
It emphasizes this unique wine production which reflects the communion of two cultures, the
Chilean with the strength and character of the terroir and the Swiss with the sophistication of their know-how, technology and innovation.
Viña Chillán is located near the town of Bulnes, 31 kilometers south of Chillán and 7 kilometers to the east of Route 5 South, along the road to Yungay. In the Tres Esquinas sector we have a planted area of 30 hectares and well trained staff.
